Not Me Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to < target="_blank" href="http://www.mycharmingkids.net">her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
This weekend I attended a photography workshop in downtown Dallas. One put on by a very "famous" blogger.
When I got on the elevator with said "famous" blogger I didn't get all giddy inside. Not me. When I got off on the wrong floor (along with another class participant), I didn't look at her and say "OMG - that was her!!" Nope, not me. That is something cooky people do!
While I was gone for the day, my precious Rowdy didn't order a pizza via the internet and have it delivered to our house. I would never have a child that would do something like that. Nope, not me!!
After leaving the photo workshop on Sunday I didn't get stuck in the parking garage. I sure didn't spend 25 minutes emptying out my purse, my laptop bag or my camera bag in search of quarters. And I certainly didn't open the back of the van and start peeling up the back floorboard looking for quarters. Nope, not me.
During a major down pour last night, I certainly didn't have two kids who insisted on going out in the middle of it. My kids would never want to go out into hail falling from the sky. Nope, not mine. And if I did have two kids that insisted on going out in a major hail storm, they sure wouldn't wear a bicycle helmet to do it in.
Nope, not me!

That’s the way baseball go …
Rowdy has played a few season’s of baseball but has never played summer ball. Until this year. A year that has to be the hottest in Texas since 1980. Of all years …
Dad played baseball in high school and has always wanted to coach a team for Rowdy but it has never worked out. Until this year.
The last season Rowdy played, his coach let him play catcher for the entire season. It was a perfect position for Rowdy. He had no choice but to pay attention to each and every play that was made. He loved playing catcher. I think it was the perfect place for his coach to put him. He should play this position each and every year. Please tell his coach this year …
Dad felt the need to have Rowdy play second base during the first game of the season. He did well really. BUT there were several times I found him kicking dirt and adjusting … well … that THING.
Girl sports and boy sports are just so different. With girl sports there are no “strange” pieces of protection that need to be worn like in boy sports. I’m sooo out of my league with this boy sport stuff.
Speaking of boy sport stuff … I’m sure he will kill me for memorializing this in a few years but it is certainly one of those things I just don’t want to forget. So, here it goes…
It has been over a year since Rowdy played baseball so his special “undies” were way too tight. After his first practice, I went and bought him a new pair. I hadn’t intended to get a fancy pair but that is all they had when I went. They are nice and looked much more comfortable than the pair he had out- grown. Well, apparently I should have had him with me when I bought them so he could have tried them on. They looked good on but apparently they were suppose to be much, much tighter.
Before the first game of the season Rowdy made me “fix” his undies in order that the “extra” piece wouldn’t shift and float around. He grabbed the back of the undies and rolled them up so they fit tightly. He then made me place to safety pins securely in the back so that his “extra piece” wouldn’t ride around. Oh good grief!
Oh well, I guess that’s just the way baseball go …

We are having a ball…
It’s finally summer and we are having a ball …
with lots and lots of volleyball (and baseball). Petunia loves to play volleyball (and she is very good at it) so this summer is all about getting her hands on a ball as much as possible. 7th grade volleyball tryouts start the first day of school in the fall (at 6:45 am thank you very much) and it if the start of summer is any indication, she will be more than ready.
Apparently when you play “select” volleyball (which we don’t), the coaches strongly encourage sand volleyball play in the off seasons. Our little team from spring is using this philosophy this summer to help prepare the girls. Fortunately, there is an awesome 12 court sand volleyball facility in our town and they hold tournaments weekly. We did our first mini-tournament last week. It was so much fun!!
We had planned on our girls playing in an all day Saturday tournament the weekend before but it was cancelled due to lack of participation. In preparation for that, we had scheduled a private lesson for the girls with a semi-pro sand volleyball player/coach on a Friday. It was a little disheartening to watch the girls during this time. Sand volleyball is an entirely different ballgame than indoor volleyball. It took some time to take into account the wind and sun. They managed well but Petunia was soooo sore for the next few days. Even though I felt for her, it was funny to watch her as she tried to maneuver the stairs.
The girls have matured so much over the past few years. It was fun to watch them “coach” themselves. They were also really good at encouraging one another.
Rowdy was not happy to spend the evening at the sand courts but he did manage to pass the time playing with a few of the siblings …
I enjoyed walking around on the soft white sand. I’d love to go to the beach on a vacation some time but until then, this is the close as I’ll get …
All in all, it turned out to be a fabulous evening. The girls got in a good 3 hours of play time and even WON their age division! Woohoo! For their “prize” each girl was given a certificate to play in another tournament of their choice later this summer. If we do this right, we could very well play an entire summer of sand tournaments for only $12 (Petunia’s cost for entry into this tournament). Hmmm … we’ll have to wait and see.

Third Annual Bloggy Flip Flop Exchange
A few weeks ago I got a message on Facebook from a good friend who clued me into this little “exchange”. My friend knows me well…she KNOWS I love flip flops, knew I blogged and thought I’d be perfect for this exchange. And … she was right!
Here’s how it works … Becca has a blog and decided that due to past popularity, she would host the 3rd Annual Bloggy Flip Flop Exchange. All you had to do was send her a comment that you wanted to participate along with your “vitals” and she matched you up with a new friend from another state. You have a few days to shop and then mail a new pair of flip flops to your new friend. How easy is that???
Meet my new “friend”, Nikki. Nikki is a newlywed living in New Jersey. Stop over and say hi! We have emailed a few times and I think we could be good friends (if she didn’t live a zillion miles away – but hey, this is the 21st century, I guess we still can be thanks to the internet!) I sent Nikki a cute pair of silver flip flops which I’m sure she will be posting about soon. Nikki sent me these …
Aren’t they great? I wore them to the beach tonight. (See the sand and surf on the computer screen??? That is the closest I will get to the beach this summer!)
Great idea Becca! Thanks for my new friend (and cute flip flops!!)

My little girl has turned 12! Gone is the head full of crazy, curly hair. Gone are the nights she would sleep walk into our bedroom and crawl into bed with us. Gone are the numerous teeth she has lost. Gone are the days I dreaded she would start school. Gone is my little girl.
BUT, we now have a beautiful young lady with so much ahead of her!! This past year she has …
- Started middle school (and I lived to tell the tale)
- Began learning her first musical instrument and has done VERY well with it
- Helped with the reprise ministry at our church caring for special needs kids once a month so their parents can have a break.
- Felt God’s call on her life to work with special needs children
- Attended her first DNow weekend (and loved it)
- Attended her first year at Xtreme Camp (and LOVED it)
- Spent her first year in the youth group at church (and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it)
- Played two seasons of competitive volleyball (and won one championship for her age division)
- Played a season on an amazing basketball team (and did really well)
We spent her actual birthday running around. She had a sand volleyball lesson at 10am. That was followed by an afternoon at the pool with family and friends which was followed by another volleyball lesson for a club league she is playing on this summer. We ended the day with a trip to Texas Roadhouse so she could have a big steak – her favorite.
I mentioned a day with family … one of my sisters-in-law is still in town with my niece and nephew. They (along with another sister-in-law) came and spent the day with us at our neighborhood pool. I’m amazed at how well they did! They lasted almost 5 hours out there. When they came over to change before heading back to their Texas home-base, I snapped these …
Landree munching on a volleyball cookie I had made for Petunia’s birthday.
Hudson chillaxin’ with Waylon. That dog is most tolerant animal alive. He has always been so good with kids!
So, with Petunia’s birthday behind us, we are now ready to start enjoying the summer break.

Silly Faces
Dad’s brother, wife and kiddos have made the long haul from the other side of the world (Ok, so it’s really South Carolina but it might as well be Zimbabwe) and we all got to spend some quality time together this past weekend. They all came to one of Petunia’s volleyball games to watch her totally ROCK IT and I had a little fun with my camera …
Landree needed a few minutes to warm up but then she was all about making silly faces for Aunt Gigi.
“Gigi, look at this …”
“Gigi, take my picture making silly faces…”
She was a riot! And what was Hudson doing during this time?
Watching the ball as it went back and forth over the net…
And looking just plane scrumptious!!!!
